FAQs

The best greenhouse size all depends on your planned uses! For many hobbyists, a small 6×6 greenhouse with a few shelves is sufficient to get a headstart on the growing season and keep some fragile plants growing longer into the fall/winter.

For ambitious home gardeners or even small commercial operations, one of our 12×24 greenhouses can fit the bill, still delivered by trailer and without the larger installation costs of a big commercial greenhouse system.

Our greenhouses come with a 10-year warranty on polycarbonate, and we recommend changing out the panels after 15 years of use.

If you see competitors promising that their plastic will last forever, run away! We’ve been gardening and in the greenhouse industry long enough to know the polycarbonate simply doesn’t last forever. The great news is that it’s a cost-effective and great solution for greenhouses, meaning replacement every two decades or so won’t break the bank.

We can set our greenhouses just about anywhere, including on topsoil or gravel pads (and even on hillsides). But, you should be thinking about what your frame is coming into contact with, and we recommend something between the raw or moist earth and the frame. Our galvanized steel will resist rust and corrosion, but it will last longer on concrete blocks or anything that gets it away from moisture.

If you’re putting your greenhouse directly on the ground, we supply earth anchors with all of our greenhouses. These are essentially long screws that secure the greenhouse to the earth.

If you’re putting your greenhouse on a cement pad or similar, we include concrete screws instead of earth anchors and will secure your greenhouse at the time of delivery.

Yes, even in Wisconsin!

Without heat, greenhouses are great for getting an early start on the growing season, beginning plants a few weeks early in the spring. In the fall, a greenhouse will let you grow heartier crops well into November or December, and even tender crops like tomatoes further into the fall.

When you heat your greenhouse, there is no limit. Grow year-round in our hobby greenhouses, including tender crops like tomatoes and peppers with an electric or propane heater.

Yes, we have 220-volt electric or propane heaters for your greenhouse.

Greenhouses do stop frost – that’s what they’re for, in fact! A properly set up and installed greenhouse will do wonders for preserving plants and allowing you to grow throughout the year.

Our galvanized steel greenhouses frames can last indefinitely, though periodic polycarbonate panel replacement will be necessary (don’t worry, it’s easy). Other greenhouses, hoop houses, and cold frames made of PVC won’t last nearly as long when they’re out in the sun year after year.

Our greenhouses are designed and manufactured at our Greenwood, WI facility. We then deliver them by trailer.

We’ve seen many DIY greenhouse kits over the years, and we recognize that they are convenient for many people.

But we also recognize that DIY kits often have inherent flaws. Because they are shipped by mail or freight internationally, they often are not built to withstand long-term use and weather over many years. Additionally, many are simply poorly made to keep prices low.

Our galvanized steel gothic-style greenhouses are fully assembled before they arrive, made from premium materials and built to withstand aggressive weather and our Wisconsin winters.

You simply won’t find this build quality from a DIY greenhouse kit.
